As the new year has kicked into gear and many hone their focus on their health, you might want to pause before you pick up your vitamins. Despite it being a multi-billion dollar, growing business, vitamin and mineral supplements are not always what they're cracked up to be. Vitamins are meant to do everything from preventing illness to helping us sleep to boosting energy to promoting weight-loss.
Yet it was recently suggested that vitamins are a "total waste of money". Then this week one popular supplement, chromium, was linked with carcinogens.
